PROFILE OF HONOURABLE SOPHIA KAREN EDEM ACKUAKU
Honorable Sophia Karen Edem Ackuaku is an outstanding woman with a personal objective of contributing her quota maximize profit in every environment she finds herself in. Based on her numerous work experience and exposure over the years, she has acquired the ability for problem solving, strategic thinking, planning and decision making, as afar as the concept of selling to attract funding. She was born on 7th January 1972 and hails from Anyarko/Ada in Ghana. Honorable Sophia Ackuaku likes to cook, watch games, and analyze data, reading and researching. She has 3 biological sons and 5 foster children (3 girls and 2 boys).
Work Experience
Honorable Sophia Ackuaku is a dynamic, focused, goal oriented and a diligent person with excellent communication and organizational skills. She is very analytical and able to handle responsibilities with or without supervision and has a strong and good team spirit as well. This is reflected in her work experience. She did her National Service at the Anloga Circuit Court (Judicial Service) from 1993 to 1994. She served as the Regional Manager of the Golden Souvenirs Lotteries for the Norther, Upper East and Upper West Regions from 1995 to 2000. Again, she was General Secretary of the Federation of Business Women from the year 2001 to 2010. She acted as the Focal Person of the International Federation of Business Women Entrepreneurs (IFBWE) from 2002 to 2011. She was the Chief Executive Officer of the Womanhood Ghana (WOGHA) from 2002 to 2011, served as the Projects Officer for the Ghana Association of
Women Entrepreneurs from 2002 to 2012 and she is the Project Officer for the Federation of ECOWAS Business Women
Entrepreneurs (Ghana Chapter) from 2002 till date.
Honorable Sophia Ackuaku is the Managing Director of Amsos Ghana Limited and Eligreen Enterprise and Training Institute since its establishment in 2004. She again served as the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Secretariat of Ghana from 2013 to 2016. She is a member of the knights and ladies of Marshall Court 5J as well as a member of the Lions Club Accra Golden.
Educational Background
Not only is she outstanding in the field of work but she is also an intelligent woman with the aspiration of attaining higher heights in the field of academics. She had her Primary Education in Datus Preparatory School from 1978 to 1985, continued with her “O” Level at Our Ladies of Apostles Secondary School from 1985 to 1992 , and her “A” level at the Accra Workers College from 1992 to 1993. She continued her education and attained a Diploma in Social Work from
2002 to 2004, a Leadership Human Rights and HIV/AIDS Certificate in 2005 from Ark Foundation Ghana. She also attained an Advanced Certificate in Public Relation, Advertising and Marketing at the Institute of Journalism in 2006, a Certificate inCosmetics and Landscape Design from 2007 to 2008 from the Eligreen Enterprise and Training Institute, a Certificate in Gender Mainstreaming in Local Governance in 2009. With her interest in understanding the LAW, she pursued and read a Bachelor of Law
Honors, (LLB) from 2013 to 2017 Mountcrest University in Ghana.
In recognition for her hard work and the hope of inspiring women to
attain higher heights, she acquired a Honorary Doctorate in Public
Administration from the Charisma University in 2017 and an
Advanced Certificate in Leadership and Management at the
American International Theology University in 2018. She also
attained a Leadership in Governance in 2019 from Kofi Anan
Security Institute, Ghana and a Certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation Course in 2023 from Knowledge Tree International
Institute, Washington DC, USA. She also attained a Certificate in
Training in Persuasive Speaking from Rainbow consult in 2023.
Political Career
With her desire to serve humanity, she started pursuing her political ambitions as the NDC Branch Treasurer at the Harris Baptist in Dome Kwabenya. As progressive as she is, she took a bold decision to serve the people of Dome Kwabenya. Thus in 2012, she contested as the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Dome Kwabenya. Though she lost on her first trial, she did not give up. She worked with the National Service Secetariat from 2013 to 2016 and then later moved to Domeabra Obom in 2016 to contest as the NDC Parliamentary Candidate and won. She was a Member of Parliament in the 7th Parliament in 2017. She retained her seat in the 2020 elections and hence, served in the 8th Parliament.
Due to her resilient love for the NDC party and her desire to acquire more seats for the party, she moved and contested for the Ayawasu Central Parliamentary Candidate during the NDC Primaries to help
secure it for the NDC Party. This was also due to the fact that she believed the Ayawasu Central Seat was winnable as the Domeabra Obom Seat was a safe seat for the NDC Party,
Hon Sophia Ackuaku lost the NDC Parliamentary Primaries in 2023 but supported the 3 NDC Parliamentary candidates who contested in Domeabra Obom, Dome Kwabenya and Ayawasu Central to help them win and secure their seat as Members of Parliament in the 2024 elections.
Current Achievements
Currently, she is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Domeabra Obom. Due to her hard work and outstanding performance, she won The
African Iconic Female Parliamentarian of the Year, at the 2023
African Iconic Women Recognition Awards held in Abuja, Nigeria. Again, during the 2024 Edition of the reputation polls, she awarded and recognized as part of the 100 MOST REPUTABLE AFRICANS.
Not only are her Works recognized at the International level but also at the local level. Locally, She is the Developmental Queen Mother of the Adenkrevi Brekusu.
Committees Served on as Member of Parliament
As Member of Parliament for Domeabra Obom, she served on the Agriculture Committee and the Poverty Reduction Committee.
She also served on the Committee of Works and Housing, as well as the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament House of Ghana. She is currently serving on the Public Administration Committee, National Population Caucus Committee, and is a Member of the National Climate Change Committee. She is also a Member of the Parliamentary Friendship Association including, Ghana-Canada, Ghana-Turkey, and Ghana-USA.
Committee Served on in the Party, National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Honorable Sophia Karen Edem Ackuaku served as a Functional Executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2017 to 2019. She again served on various Committees of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a Member on the National Executive Committee, the Fundraising Committee, the Protocol and Works Committee, as well as the Reconciliation Committee.
Currently, at the National level, she is a Member of the NDC Functional Executive Committee.
At the Regional level, she is a Member of the Regional Finance SubCommittee. She is also the Director Chairperson of the NDC Regional Welfare Committee. Also, she is the Director Chairperson of the Regional Communication Finance Committee. She is also a
